Remember actor Tarun Shetty? He debuted under GA2 Pictures banner in director Hussain Sha Kiran’s Meeku Meere Maaku Meeme with Avantika Mishra in 2016. Though the film could not reach the level of success in accordance to its substance, Tarun Shetty’s act got noticed amongst the film lovers. His curly locks and cute looks too became a trending point in the industry.
After a gap of two years, Tarun Shetty is back into the limelight in Tollywood. He will be seen playing the younger version of NT Rama Rao garu in Balakrishna’s NTR Mahanayakudu. There are many actors in the film industry who vouch for playing roles in magnum opuses or big budget biopics but, not all get their hands on being a part of such flicks.
Tarun Shetty’s sheer persistence and hard work in shifting base from Bengaluru to Hyderabad seems to have finally given him a kick-start to his acting career. With a beeline of choices, Director Krish got hold of Tarun’s pictures and as destiny would have it, Tarun fitted the bill to play NTR’s younger version in the film.
We had a chat with Tarun Shetty and here are the excerpts:
On being asked about his journey from Meeku Meere Maaku Meeme (M4) to NTR Mahanayakudu:
I am 25 currently and when I debuted in Meeku Meere Maaku Meeme, I was pretty young! My character in M4 was more like myself. It wasn’t a task, it was easy. I always wanted to be an actor. I attended an acting school for 3 months in London. That was to learn about what goes into a character. I don’t act according to text book, I rather take my life real lessons and experiences to enact the characters that come to me. 🙂
I would like to mention the names of Allu Aravind garu, Sukumar garu and my director Hussain Sha Kiran here. Its with their blessings that I got noticed in the industry.
How did you land yourself in the prestigious biopic NTR Mahanayakudu?
It was all sudden, ha-ha! My manager had called me one day and told me about this part. That’s how I got this role. The makers wanted to showcase some tidbits about the younger days of NTR garu in the film and they picked me up for the role.
On his preparation for the role:
I didn’t do much! I got to learn more about the way NTR garu lived. I watched few of his films and clippings. He used to take long strides while walking, such small but important mannerisms were taken into consideration.
He was a legend who took Telugu cinema to a different level. All I had to do was to follow his mannerisms and keep it as simple as it can get, without going overboard!
On his experiences of working with director Krish Jagarlamudi:
I never knew him personally. I only saw his films and I like his style of film making. When I finally got to meet and work with Krish, it was indeed an enriching experience. He has been in the business since many years and it was cool to see the professionalism that he carries on the sets.
The kind of roles he is looking to play in the near future:
I believe in bringing out my natural self onto the screen. My act in my first film was almost me, and all I had to do was be normal. In NTR Mahanayakudu, I had to learn the mannerisms and it was a challenge but fun at the same time.
I am keen to do roles which not many must have tried in the industry till now. We have certain actors who are doing very well in action genre, some are known for their comic timing, and some for their lover boy image.
I am still young, and I look younger than my actual age, ha-ha! Keeping that in mind, I would love to experiment with all possible genres with a twist. For now, I would want to work in an entertainer with some fun filled action. 🙂
Oh, so many! I like Tharun Bhascker and I am sure his sensibilities would match mine and it may turn out to be a cool combo! In the future, I would love to work with SS Rajamouli Sir.
Movies in the pipeline:
For now, it’s about NTR Mahanayakudu. I am keen to see the kind of feedback I get for my role in the film. I am having few offers in the pipeline, but nothing has been finalized yet!
Even now, I keep receiving messages from people for my role in my first film and I am sure, after NTR Mahanayakudu, the number of messages shall increase. This is indeed a positive sign for me as an actor, that I am able to generate curiosity amongst the film lovers. I only hope that the same curiosity shall continue with my next set of films.
On what can people expect from NTR Mahanayakudu:
NTR Kathanayakudu won many hearts for its clean storytelling. I am sure that NTR Mahanayakudu will let people know more about the political side of NTR garu. We hope to raise the barometer with the second part of NTR biopic.
I request the audience to come and watch the film in theaters. I need all your blessings. 🙂
Editor’s note: Here’s wishing Tarun Shetty a happy time at the cinemas with NTR Mahanayakudu. Hope to see more of him in Tollywood!
