Indian cricketer Karun Nair gained fame with his 300 runs for India against England in 2016(Country’s second ever triple centurion). He was picked for the England tour right at the start of the series but wasn’t picked for any of the matches. Hanuma Vihari was added to the side after the third test and, he found himself in the playing XI before the already picked Karun Nair.
This did raise quite a few eyebrows and Sunil Gavaskar too did not mince words in doubting the decision. Though Hanuma Vihari’s knocks were much appreciated, the omission of Karun Nair wasn’t taken lightly.
With the Indian test squad being announced for the West Indies series, it came as a shocker to see the non-inclusion of Karun Nair. Many questions are being raised to the selection committee on this decision while Karun himself as said that there were no proper communication regards to this issue from the selectors.
On being asked upon the same, BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad stated that he and selector Devang Gandhi did speak to Karun Nair about his chances in the team. They said that he has been advised to concentrate more on the India A list matches and pile up more runs in order to get back into the team.
What’s baffling is that Karun Nair has been a known name since few years, his performances have done the talking, he has a triple hundred behind his back and still no place in the team? No clear statement has been given yet by the selection committee on the omission of Karun Nair from the Indian test squad.
There have been many such unlucky cricketers over the world and India has seen such names being treated in similar fashion. Let’s hope that Karun find a place in the Indian team soon!
